In the present study, the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council focuses on the rights of the most vulnerable people working in rural areas, in particular on those of smallholder farmers, landless workers, fisher-folk, hunters and gatherers. The Committee recommends that the Human Rights Council develop a new international human rights instrument on the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas. The
declaration on the rights of peasants adopted by the Advisory Committee, annexed to the
present study, could serve as a model.
